One proposal that I read a while back had the national sales tax similar to the state of Minnesota’s sales tax in that there would be no tax on food or clothing. That would mean that the poorest of people in this country would continue to not pay any taxes because they are poor and can only afford to buy food and clothing. In contrast the richest people in this country who spend most of their income on non-essentials would pay proportionally much more in taxes. Thoughts?
